Storage needed— TB
Including about 10% overhead. Suggested:
Bitrate per camera
All cameras combined
Footage per day (all cameras)
Storage per camera for the period
Typical bitrates vary with scene, frame rate, lighting and camera settings. Busy or low-light scenes use more. Surveillance-rated drives are recommended, and the capacity stated on a drive is usually not fully usable.
How storage is calculated
One camera recording at 1 Mbps for 24 hours produces about 10.8 GB. We multiply that by the number of cameras, the share of time recorded and the days kept, then add overhead. For deeper reading see how much storage CCTV needs and H.265 vs H.264.
